There is an open PhD position about phage host interactions in potential animal-pathogenic marine Vibrios. Application deadline is the 5th of August 2026. The place of employment is Helgoland.

Tasks

  • Isolate bacteria and bacteriophages from aquaculture systems and natural aquatic environments
  • Characterise bacterial and phage isolates using MALDI-TOF MS, FTIR spectroscopy, whole-genome sequencing, and bioinformatics approaches
  • Assess the potential application of bacteriophages in aquaculture through experimental trials with European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) larvae
  • Investigate phage-host interactions under different temperature regimes to evaluate the resilience and effectiveness of phage-based treatments under climate change scenarios
  • Analyse genomic and phenotypic data to improve the understanding of phage-host dynamics and their potential for sustainable disease management in aquaculture
