Dear colleagues,
Following the 21st International Conference on Harmful Algae (ICHA 2025), held from 19–24 October 2025 in Punta Arenas, Chile, we are pleased to announce a forthcoming Special Issue in the Journal of Plankton Research (JPR) titled:
“Advances in Planktonic Harmful Algae Research from Marine and Freshwater Environments”, which is one of the coordinated Special Issues that will replace the traditional ICHA conference proceedings. This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for expanded versions of work presented at ICHA 2025, covering harmful algae dynamics in both marine and freshwater systems.
We invite ICHA 2025 presenters to submit full research articles, short communications, or reviews on topics such as:
- Functional traits and succession in phytoplankton communities
- Plankton community diversity and structure
- Population dynamics of planktonic harmful algal species
- Innovations in molecular and observational methods for HAB research
- Environmental and ecological drivers of plankton dynamics
This Special Issue will highlight the latest research that advances our understanding of harmful algae and plankton ecology across diverse aquatic environments.
